We are a martial arts club based in Camden. We're the only completely female-led and LGBTIQ+ Shorinji Kempo club in the UK.
What is the goal / dream for your club?
"To teach practical martial arts (along with some Buffy-esque moves and spinning kicks!) and have a great time while doing so."
It is pride month so we want to know what you are most proud of about your club?
"We're proud to be the only completely female-led and openly LGBTIQ+ Shorinji Kempo club in the UK. We're also funny, friendly and extremely proud of the way that our community looks after each other - a complete lifesaver in times like these!"
What makes a good teammate for your club?
"Enthusiasm! All we ever ask is that you show up with an open mind. Pre-quarantine, the post-class pub trip was a big part of our club dynamic, so we love it when people hang out with us after class too."
Why do you think it is important for there to be LGBTIQ+ specific sports clubs/groups?
"Especially in sports like martial arts - where there is a lot of physical contact - it's important for everyone to feel safe and listened to. LGBTIQ+ clubs give us spaces where we can just be ourselves."
How do you think sport can benefit the LGBTIQ+ community?
"Sport can benefit the LGBTIQ+ community by giving us confidence, getting us fit and helping us connect with new people. Most importantly, it's a lot of fun!"
